Sick Days Ohio: A Job Killer

  • Thousands of Ohio employees are healthy and do not need seven days paid sick leave every single year. They would rather have the right to negotiate for different benefits. Sick Days Ohio would take away that right.
  • Employees will be able to use this policy to take paid time off for "preventive medical care" time at a local gym or yoga class at the expense of their employers.
  • The potential for abuse is enormous! Playing sick may have been fun in grade school but it is costly in the world of business. Nothing will prevent some employees from abusing the law and taking long weekends seven times a year at the expense of his/her employer. If the employer objects he/she can be sued!
  • The enforcement section permits Ohio employees to sue their employers with the employer forced to pay all attorney fees!
  • With no limitation on the rollover, employers will go broke reimbursing healthy employees for years of unused paid sick leave.
  • Companies that currently provide paid sick leave, with reasonable limits on multiple year rollovers, will not be able to keep this benefit in tact.
  • Sick Days Ohio changes the definition of full time employees to 30 hours (instead of 32 hours) and will wreak havoc on other company policies.
  • This law will force employers to cut jobs, limit growth, cut wages, and some will leave Ohio altogether.
